Evvie rarely leaves her home in a small seaside town in Maine. Her best friend Andy, along with the rest of the town, attributes her reclusiveness to grief over her husband’s death nearly a year ago. When Andy’s childhood friend, Dead, comes from New York City to stay a while, Evvie lets him an apartment at the back of her house. They agree that he won’t ask about her late husband, and she won’t ask about his Major League pitching career. Evvie and Dean soon become friends, and maybe more, but to move forward, they each must deal with issues in their pasts.
